Sub makes a suggestion

To the Editor:

As a substitute teacher, I would like to offer the following suggestions to teachers who currently use SubCentral to obtain their substitute teachers. Since there is an option for teachers to record a voice message (and in my experience the majority don’t use this feature), it would be really helpful if you would record the grade of your class as well as whether you have left any lesson plans and any other information that would enable the sub to most effectively cover for you.

Far too often, I spend the first few minutes when I enter a new classroom trying to figure out where the teacher has left his or her lesson plans and then, not finding them, trying to figure out where in the curriculum the students are. And knowing in advance what grade I will be covering allows me to be more prepared. Thanks.
