Thank all thanked teachers

Mar 13, 2008 3:36 PM

I just received the Feb. 14 New York Teacher and was disappointed that you only highlighted a few of us who were honored at the “Thank A Teacher” ceremony.

We are all proud of being honored that night and we have all worked hard. I truly think that it would have been a nice gesture to list all 200 of our names in the newspaper. Some of us have been working more than 20 years and we would love to share the news with all of our family, friends, former students who are now educators, former co-workers or former supervisors. Who knows if we will ever receive such an honor again?

I truly feel that you should list all of our names and schools in one of the upcoming issues. I have worked for 24 years and am hurt to see that teachers who are much younger than I am are featured in the newspaper.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The “Thank A Teacher” campaign is ongoing, and only the first 200 nominated were able to be invited to the celebration. There are nearly 300 teachers on the list — and it continues to grow. That’s why we didn’t print the list but instead gave the Web address where it can be found. Again, it is http://schools.nyc.gov/Students/ThankATeacher.htm.
