Letters to the Editor

Those were the days

To the Editor:

Edmund Janko’s “A super library” [Speakout, April 10] must echo what so

many of us retirees feel. I look back on my 91 years and recall vividly the impression made on my teenage mind by Victor Hugo’s “Toilers of the Sea” — a book that could melt me to tears when I finished it. Such were literary classics which will forever outrank the bilge we are flooded with today; books, video, cinema, all together making one vast cloaca to “educate” our youth.
