P credits: Another way to earn differentials

The UFT is always looking for better ways to provide members with the professional development they want at minimal cost. That’s why the union negotiated a professional studies program — P credits, for short.

This program offers teachers and school secretaries opportunities for low-cost professional development courses and/or activities approved by the chancellor. The 30-hour, three-credit courses are offered after school during the week and on weekends at multiple sites around the city.

In addition, the union won DOE agreement to have those credits count toward the first as well as the second salary differential.

You can view all upcoming P courses online at www.nyaspdp.org, and you can register at the same Web site. See page 33 (“In-service courses”) of the special UFT courses supplement inserted in this issue of New York Teacher for more information on P courses.
