HIP changes mail-order firm

Jan 17, 2008 4:17 PM

HIP Health Plan of New York announced in late December that it is switching its mail-order pharmacy provider from Express-Scripts to Medco Health Solutions effective Jan. 14.

Refills for prescriptions that had been sent to Express-Scripts will be transferred automatically to Medco, HIP said. However, prescriptions for some controlled substances and compound medications cannot be transferred. HIP subscribers need to get a new prescription from their physicians.

A mailing explaining the change-over was sent to HIP subscribers last month.

Medco can be contacted on the Internet at www.medco.com or by phone at 1-800-820-9726.

Refills may be handled at the company’s Web site or via the automated refill phone system at 1-800-473-3455.

New prescriptions for maintenance medication may be mailed to Medco in postage-paid envelopes provided by the company. Doctors may fax prescriptions and should call 1-888-327-9791 for faxing instructions.

For questions about Medicare prescription services, subscribers should call HIP’s customer service department at 1-800-447-8255 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those with a hearing or speech impairment should call 1-888-447-4833.
