Medicare Part B reimbursements
Sep 6, 2007 5:30 PM
All Medicare-eligible retirees and their Medicare-eligible spouses/domestic partners should have received their $1,062 Medicare Part B reimbursements for 2006. Retirees and eligible dependents covered by Medicare Part B paid $88.50 per month in 2006.
Premiums for Medicare Part B are reimbursed in full because of legislation enacted by the City Council. Despite former Mayor Giuliani’s veto, the UFT and other municipal labor unions lobbied hard and overrode the veto.
It’s clear that the present mayor is looking to reduce the cost for city health benefits. To make sure this doesn’t happen we must stay active and involved. We will let you know when and how you can help.
The overwhelming number of retirees will receive their checks by the end of August or the first week in September. If you have not received your refund by the end of September, please contact the Health Benefits Program, 40 Rector St., 3rd floor, New York, NY 10036, Attn. Medicare Reimbursement Unit. Be sure to include the retirees’ Social Security number on all correspondence.
