School calendar

AUGUST

28 (Thursday) — Classroom teachers, bilingual teachers in school and community relations, guidance counselors, attendance teachers, nurses, therapists, laboratory specialists and technicians, educational paraprofessionals (except for school secretaries, psychologists and social workers) report for a professional day/general staff orientation. School secretaries, psychologists and social workers report for a regular workday. Students will not be in attendance.

29 (Friday) — Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development (regular work day for school secretaries, psychologists and social workers). Students will not be in attendance.

SEPTEMBER

1 (Monday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Labor Day

2 (Tuesday) — School sessions begin for all students. Early dismissal for non-District 75 kindergarten students only.

3 (Wednesday) — Early dismissal for non-District 75 kindergarten students only.

4 (Thursday) — First full day for pre-K and kindergarten students

30 (Tuesday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Rosh Hashanah.

OCTOBER

1 (Wednesday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Rosh Hashanah.

9 (Thursday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Yom Kippur.

13 (Monday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Columbus Day.

23 (Thursday) — High schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

24 (Friday) — High schools — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

NOVEMBER

4 (Tuesday) — Election Day. Chancellor's Conference Day for staff development related to the Regents high learning standards and assessments. Students will not be in attendance.

5 (Wednesday) — District 75 schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference. (District 75 school programs housed within a non-District 75 school should adhere to that school level's afternoon and evening parent-teacher conference dates.)

6 (Thursday) — District 75 schools — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference. (District 75 school programs housed within a non-District 75 school should adhere to that school level's afternoon and evening parent-teacher conference dates.)

11 (Tuesday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Veterans Day.

17 (Monday) — Intermediate and junior high school — citywide evening parent teacher conference.

18 (Tuesday) — Intermediate and junior high school — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

19 (Wednesday) — Elementary schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

20 (Thursday) — Elementary schools — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

27-28 (Thursday-Friday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Thanksgiving recess

DECEMBER

24-JAN. 2 — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Winter recess (including Christmas and New Year's Day), students return to school on Monday, Jan. 5.

JANUARY

5 (Monday) — Schools reopen. Students return to school.

19 (Monday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

FEBRUARY

2 (Monday) — Fall term ends for high school students. No high school students will be in attendance. Chancellor’s Conference Day related to the Regents high learning standards and assessments in all high schools. All other students will be in attendance.

3 (Tuesday) — Spring term begins for high school students.

16-20 (Monday-Friday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Midwinter recess (including Washington’s Birthday).

24 (Tuesday) — Intermediate and junior high schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

26 (Thursday) — Intermediate and junior high school — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

MARCH

18 (Wednesday) — Elementary — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

19 (Thursday) — Elementary — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

26 (Thursday) — High schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

27 (Friday) — High schools — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

30 (Monday) — District 75 schools — citywide evening parent-teacher conference.

31 (Tuesday) — District 75 schools — citywide afternoon parent-teacher conference.

APRIL

9-17 (Thursday-Friday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Spring recess (including Good Friday, Easter and Passover); students return to school on Monday, April 20.

MAY

25 (Monday) — SCHOOLS CLOSED. Memorial Day observed.

JUNE

4 (Thursday) — Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development related to the Regents high learning standards and assessments in all five boroughs. School staff report to work if required by their collective bargaining agreement. Students in all five boroughs will not be in attendance.

16 (Tuesday) — The Regents examination period starts.

25 (Thursday) — In non-District 75 high schools having administered Regents exams from June 16 through June 24, students will not be in attendance on Regents Rating Day, Thursday, June 25.

26 (Friday) — Last day for all students and all classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, attendance teachers, nurses, therapists, laboratory specialists and technicians.

29-30 (Monday-Tuesday) — All other staff report to work for these two days except above titles.
