New UFT ad a good listen

The UFT started running a back-to-school radio ad on Sept. 2 asking public officials and school communities to listen to teachers and provide the support and resources they need.

“Because teachers know that higher test scores aren’t enough. To educate the whole child, we must start in the classroom,” the ad concludes.

The ad will air on several popular news/talk and music stations including the morning drive times of 1010 WINS, WOR and WBLS. It will also air in Spanish on WSKQ.

The ad is running for two weeks starting on the first day of school.

An estimated 11.1 million listeners in the New York metropolitan area will hear the spot an average of nearly three times during the 15 days that the ad is on the air.

What the ad says:

The days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing color, and the school doors are opening wide to welcome back our students to New York City’s public schools.

Our teachers will be working hard to build on the progress they and their students made last year.

As proud as we are of past achievements, we are more committed than ever to do what is right for our children.

In these tough economic times, we must also continue to fight for what matters most — getting our kids the quality, well-rounded education they deserve.

And no one knows better what is required in the classroom than teachers. Parents agree — 94 percent of them approve of the job teachers are doing.

So we ask our public officials and school communities to listen to our teachers and provide the support and resources they need.

Because teachers know that higher test scores aren’t enough. To educate the whole child, we must start in the classroom.
