UFT launches “Made a Difference” radio ad
published June 30, 2011
A radio ad thanking parents, teachers, elected officials and community leaders for fighting back against the threat of teacher layoffs started airing on June 30. The radio spot was launched six days after the City Council and Mayor Bloomberg arrived at a budget deal that averted the 4,200 teacher layoffs that the mayor had been threatening for months.
The 30-second ad will air through July 6 on radio stations across the city, including WCBS-FM, WCBS-AM, WINS-AM, WLTW-FM, WBLS-FM and WPAT-FM.
The radio script:
MICHAEL MULGREW: This is Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers.
For months, parents, teachers, elected officials and community leaders fought back against threats of teacher layoffs. And you made a difference.
There is still work to be done, but thanks to you, the teachers will be there when school opens. Community leaders, parents and the UFT will be there too. Standing together for our schools and a strong future, for ALL New Yorkers.
ANNOUNCER: A message from the United Federation of Teachers.
