Storm Day Procedures
published July 27, 2010
In the event of a major storm, the chancellor will determine whether to open, close or delay the opening of school. In these situations the union will try to convince the chancellor to do what is safe. The school system is too often concerned with its custodial function, which is why it rarely closes schools.
In the event that the chancellor closes schools, all administrative offices of the DOE are open (unless reported to the contrary) and all UFT employees in those offices are expected to report to work. If you stay home, the day will be taken out of your CAR.
You should listen to the radio and TV for the most up-to-date information. You also should call the UFT Hotline (212-777-0190) for the most accurate information on any affected union activities.
