Measures of Effective Teaching
“Educators know all too well that one-dimensional indicators such as test scores can't begin to capture the complexities of effective teaching and learning. This study promises to look at the bigger picture, and we view it as an important opportunity to be proactive about our profession.”
– Michael Mulgrew, UFT President
The UFT and the Department of Education are participating in a research study to help develop fair, accurate, and useful guides to what really makes effective teaching and learning. This two-year study, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is premised on the principle that good teaching is multi-dimensional, and that teachers and their schools need consistent and reliable information in order to identify and support good teaching.
