UFT Dues

UFT dues: During the year ending Dec. 31, 2011, the City of New York and other employers deducted union dues for the UFT from those UFT members who were so designated. The amount deducted on your behalf and remitted to the UFT can be computed from this chart. Be sure to multiply the semi-monthly amount by the actual number of paychecks you received at each rate. Union dues may be tax deductible, subject to certain limitations. For further information, please consult your tax professional.

Pursuant to the secret ballot referendum of the entire membership in September 1982, on the dues pass-through, the dues rate for members of the United Federation of Teachers has been adjusted to become effective Sept. 1, 2011.

As approved by the UFT Executive Board and the Delegate Assembly on Oct. 6, 1999, and Nov. 3, 1999, UFT members’ dues were reduced to .85 of one percent of the maximum salary of Step 8B plus L20 as defined in the teachers’ contract plus the AFT and NYSUT pass-through. Where the 8B plus L20 is not applicable, a similar reduction will be effected but not less than the minimum dues rate shall apply.

As of Sept. 1, 2011, the pass-through amount will be increased by $1.30 per month for most members.

  1. UFT members shall have a dues rate determined on the basis of .85 of one percent of the salary of Step 8B plus L20 in their title in the bargaining unit plus the pass-through, but not less than the minimum dues rate. Where there is no maximum salary of Step 8B plus L20 for a title in a bargaining unit, dues shall be based on .85 of one percent of the individual member’s compensation limited to Step 8B plus L20 plus the pass-through, but not less than the minimum dues rate.
  2. Change in Dues Structure: As approved by the UFT Executive Board and the Delegate Assembly on Oct. 4, 1989, UFT members whose annual salary is less than 50 percent of the minimum full-time salary in their title in the bargaining unit shall have a dues rate determined on the basis of .425 of one percent of the maximum salary, limited to Step 8B plus L20, in their title in the bargaining unit plus 50 percent of the pass-through.
  3. Members of the UFT Retired Teachers Chapter who joined the Chapter prior to July 1, 1984, shall continue to have their dues rate determined on the same basis as now. Effective for members who joined the Chapter on or after July 1, 1984, the dues rate shall be determined on the basis of .4 of one percent based on their retirement allowance.
