Dear parents, grandparents, guardians and education activists,

Don't miss our free career and technical education (CTE) expo on March 24.

Parents and students will learn about CTE high schools and the industries they prepare students to enter. Speakers will be UFT President Michael Mulgrew and Sterling Roberson, the UFT vice president for CTE high schools. See the flier »

The CTE expo is part of a two-day event that starts with a college fair on Friday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UFT's Bronx borough office, 2500 Halsey St. Representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities will be available to offer admissions support. There will also be representatives from local organizations that help with admission and financial aid. If you are a parent attending with your children, there is no need to register in advance.   • Friday, March 9: Bronx families are invited to a Daddy Daughter Dance from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at 335 E. 152nd St. Fathers, father figures, mothers and children are all welcome to this free event. Please RSVP to the parent coordinator at one of the sponsoring schools: PS 29, PS 1X or the Early Learn School. See the flier »
  • Wednesday, March 21: There will be a free Healthy Homes Workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in English and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Spanish at 555 Bergen St., 4th floor. The workshop will cover lead poisoning, how to prevent and get rid of bedbugs, and how to safely control pests. See the flier in English and Spanish »
  • Saturday, March 24: Fathers and educators are invited to the third annual UFT Men in Education Symposium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway in Manhattan.   • Saturday, May 5: There will be a free citizenship workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UFT's Bronx borough office, 2500 Halsey St. Get help with the N-400 Application for Naturalization. For more information, see the flier in English and Spanish »

News you can use

  • Parent-teacher conferences are coming up: Spring parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for this month. Although some schools hold their conferences on alternative dates, the citywide schedule is:

    Middle schools — March 6 and 7
    High schools — March 8 and 9
    District 75 schools — March 12 and 13
    Elementary schools — March 14 and 15

    For specific times and to confirm that your child's school will hold conferences on the Department of Education's scheduled date, check with your child's school.
  • Guidance for flu season: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published a handy guide to the flu season for parents. Read it now »
