More than 2,000 UFT educators remain in excess
July 30, 2009
The Department of Education announced on July 30 that more than 2,000 UFT educators remain in excess.
UFT President-Elect Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement in response:
We have been working for months with the Department of Education to address the issue of excessed educators, and we will continue to monitor the effects of the system-wide hiring freeze implemented by the department earlier this year. As schools finalize their programs for the opening of the school year in September and additional personnel needs are addressed, the number of educators awaiting placement in schools will drop, and we will continue working with the DOE to ensure that all the personnel needs of the school system are met.
