UFT responds to mayor’s new attacks on the union
January 22, 2013
Mayor Bloomberg on Jan. 22 continued his attacks on the UFT, blaming the union for the breakdown of talks and claiming that the city should have had the authority to unilaterally impose a teacher evaluation system over the union’s objections.
UFT President Michael Mulgrew released the following statement in response:
Welcome to Bloombergland. Most people would be embarrassed that the state’s highest education official has directly contradicted their statements about a new teacher evaluation system, but not the mayor. He’s gone from “my way or the highway” to “I am always right and everyone else is wrong.” And people wonder why negotiations haven’t been successful.
