Professional Development/Training

The United Federation of Teachers has created these educational seminars to meet your professional needs and interests. The sessions are focused on the nine topics mandated by New York State and are designed to help you fulfill the 30-hour requirement for licensing and renewal. A certificate will be issued at the end of each session.

To attend, you must register by mail and send a $10 check or money order for each session (payable to the UFT) if you are a dues paying member. Non-union members pay $25 per session. NO refunds will be given for missed sessions. Please contact the UFT membership department at 212-510-6855 to join if you are not already a member.

Providers assistants can now join as associate union members for a yearly fee of $35, and as associate members, you can send a check or money order for $10 for each session payable to the UFT. NO refunds will be given for missed sessions. Please contact the UFT membership department at 212-510-6855 to join.

The sessions will:

  • Focus on developmentally-appropriate practices from birth to school age.
  • Provide applications of current research with practical activities—hands-on and take-home.

All sessions are held on Saturdays in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens at the UFT borough offices. Each seminar will be three hours and will be held in the morning (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.) All seminar sessions are conducted by New York City Department of Education licensed early childhood teachers from the UFT Teacher Center and by certified health and safety trainers.

Certificates will be issued only to attendees who have completed the total number of training hours. For assistance with certificate replacement after the training or for other certificate-related questions, please call the UFT Teacher Center at 212-475-3737.
