2015 Medicare Part B and IRMAA 2014 Reimbursements are Coming in June

For the first time, Medicare-eligible retirees will receive their 2015 Medicare Part B reimbursements by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) directly into their bank accounts on June 17, 2016. The Medicare reimbursement check will go into the same account in which retirees receive their pension checks. If a retiree doesn’t receive his or her check by EFT, the retiree will be receiving the check by regular mail. If retirees cover a spouse or a domestic partner, one check will be issued combining both reimbursements. These reimbursements are based on the standard Medicare Part B premium paid for the number of months retirees and/or eligible dependents were enrolled in health plans offered through the Health Benefits program.

If a member sent in the necessary documentation for the Medicare Part B 2014 IRMAA (Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount), this payment also will be directly deposited into the member's EFT account on June 17, 2016. If a retiree doesn’t receive his or her check by EFT, the retiree will receive the IRMAA check by regular mail.

After receiving the Medicare Part B reimbursement for 2015, members can file a IRMAA 2015 reimbursement form. For those who are eligible, the form will be available in July on the city website at or on the UFT website under quick links on the Retired Teachers page.
