LearnUFT courses for Paraprofessionals

LearnUFT is proud to offer professional learning courses open to paraprofessionals, including many specifically designed to meet their needs. Remember that only paraprofessionals who hold a Level III teaching assistant certificate are required to collect Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) hours. Level III teaching assistant certificate holders are required to collect and track 100 PD CTLE hours in each five-year cycle. Of those 100 hours, 15 hours must be in the area of instruction for English language learners.

    October 17, 2018 - 4:30pm - 6:30pm

    At this LearnUFT session for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will discuss the research behind special education policies, identify the components of an IEP, and examine and use criteria for developing a PLOP and a SMART goal. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport (Components 2A and 2D) (LearnUFT High Schools)
    October 18, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    This LearnUFT workshop for high school members focuses on proactive techniques that may be used in the classroom immediately. Participants will earn two hours of CTLE credit.

  • Strengthening Literacy Skills Through Vocabulary Instruction: What's the Word? (LearnUFT Bronx)
    October 18, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine the research that demonstrates how continuous vocabulary development strengthens students as independent learners, unpack the Common Core Language Standards for Vocabulary, and learn strategies for explicit instruction of vocabulary. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • IEP 101: An Introduction to IEPs (LearnUFT Bronx)
    October 18, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will discuss the research behind special education policies, identify the components of an IEP and examine and use criteria for developing a PLOP and a SMART goal. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • High Impact Literacy Strategies (LearnUFT Manhattan)
    October 18, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    At this LearnUFT session for Manhattan teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine research-based practices to support students before reading complex text, experience pre-reading activities that encourage students to make connections that will foster deeper comprehension during reading, and apply strategies that motivate and engage students with task and text. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • Working Together: Integrated Partnerships in the ENL Classroom (LearnUFT Bronx)
    October 22, 2018 - 4:30pm - 6:30pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will understand the value of teacher partnerships when supporting English Language learners in the integrated classroom., determine the components of effective co-teaching and build a toolbox of techniques for the integrated ENL classroom. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • The Learning is in the Struggle: A Mindset for Mathematical Success (LearnUFT Bronx)
    October 22, 2018 - 4:30pm - 6:30pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will learn about the growth mindset, experience how the mindset connects to math teaching and learning, solve math problems and design activities that promote productive math struggle. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.

  • The Role of the High School Paraprofessional (LearnUFT High Schools)
    October 24, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    This LearnUFT workshop is specifically designed for high school paraprofessionals. High school classrooms are unique and this workshop will address issues specific to those learning environments. Participants will earn two hours of CTLE credit.

  • Setting the Stage for Reading Complex Text (LearnUFT Bronx)
    October 24, 2018 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Bronx teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine research-based practices to support students before reading complex text, experience pre-reading activities that encourage students to make connections that will foster deeper comprehension during reading and apply strategies that motivate and engage students with task and text. Participants will earn two CTLE hours.
