LearnUFT courses for Paraprofessionals

LearnUFT is proud to offer professional learning courses open to paraprofessionals, including many specifically designed to meet their needs. Remember that only paraprofessionals who hold a Level III teaching assistant certificate are required to collect Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) hours. Level III teaching assistant certificate holders are required to collect and track 100 PD CTLE hours in each five-year cycle. Of those 100 hours, 15 hours must be in the area of instruction for English language learners.

  • First Things First (LearnUFT Queens)
    June 27, 2019 - 8:30am - 10:30am

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine beliefs about home language and culture to ensure the whole child comes into the classroom; consider the value of strengthening the child's first language to foster learning and develop proficiency in English; and explore strategies to scaffold instruction for children in the classroom in order to increase access to content. Participants will receive two CTLE hours.

  • Manipulatives in the Math Classroom (LearnUFT Queens)
    June 27, 2019 - 8:30am - 10:30am

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will develop an understanding of how the use of manipulatives in the math classroom impacts student mathematical thinking and builds conceptual knowledge. Participants will also engage in productive struggle with the use of hands on materials to explore and apply mathematical vocabulary. Participants will receive two CTLE hours.

  • Working Together: Integrated Partnerships in the ENL Classroom (LearnUFT Queens)
    June 27, 2019 - 8:30am - 10:30am

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will understand the value of teacher partnerships when supporting English Language Learners in the integrated classroom, determine the components of effective co-teaching, and build a toolbox of techniques for the integrated ENL classroom. Participants will receive two CTLE hours.

  • Building for 21st-Century Success: Connecting the Blueprint to the Next Generation Standards (UFT Teacher Center Summer Institute)
    July 9, 2019 - 9:00am - July 11, 2019 - 1:00pm

    This three-day special education summer institute will provide educators with the opportunity to explore the guiding principles of the Blueprint for Improved Results for Students with Disabilities. CTLE hours will be available.

  • Exercising Our Mathematical Minds: There's Strength in Numbers (UFT Teacher Center Summer Institute)
    July 16, 2019 - 9:00am - July 18, 2019 - 1:00pm

    This three-day mathematics summer institute will provide participants with an opportunity to develop an awareness of the Next Generation Mathematics Standards. CTLE hours will be available.
