Resolution to participate in the 2015 Gay Pride March in New York City

WHEREAS,  the United Federation of Teachers has a rich and proud history of standing up for civil and human rights, promoting issues of fair pay, safe working conditions, health care and equal rights free  discrimination on the basis of race, creed, gender, color, national origin or sexual orientation, and

WHEREAS, the Gay Pride March in New York City began on June 28, 1970 to honor the one-year anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan that marked a turning point in the struggle for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people; and

WHEREAS, the march has been held every year since as a civil rights demonstration and has expanded to include other events during the month of June, which has become known as LGBT Pride Month; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, the march will be held Sunday, June 28, beginning at noon at the starting point of 36th Street and Fifth Avenue; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the United Federation of Teachers will proudly participate in the 2015 Gay Pride March in New York City.
