Supporting President Obama's job bill
November 9, 2011
WHEREAS, President Barack Obama has put forth an American Jobs Act to address the horrific state of unemployment in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, this bill contains $30 billion earmarked to save teacher jobs nationwide; and
WHEREAS, this jobs bill could save 6,000 teachers jobs in New York City and save an additional 18,000 jobs statewide which will directly affect the children we serve; and
WHEREAS, the 1.6 billion in funds earmarked for school modernization and repair in NYC could be welcome relief from excessive overcrowding and lessen the billions that the DOE currently spends for leasing building sites throughout NYC, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the UFT will join with our allies in labor and parent and community organizations to urge passage of the President’s jobs bill; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the UFT will educate the membership about the importance of this American Jobs Act; and be it further
RESOLVED, that its UFT members urge the NYSUT Board of Directors to adopt this resolution and educate our colleagues throughout the state about the importance of this act.
