An independent arbitrator has ordered the city to negotiate a new Medicare Advantage program with the Aetna insurance company in the next 25 days.

In the last 20 years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, national hospital costs have tripled, and other medical charges have more than doubled, far outpacing increases in average family income.

The UFT begins its negotiations with New York City and the Department of Education today, Oct. 13, 2022, as members all over New York City wore blue today to mark the date.

For decades, New York City parents and teachers have been fighting for lower class sizes.  We now have something to celebrate. Governor Hochul has signed the Legislature’s bill that lowers class sizes across New York City. UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement.

New York City has lost its bid for a Temporary Restraining Order that would have allowed the city to suspend without a hearing more than 80 teachers who have been accused — but not found guilty — of falsifying their COVID vaccination status.
