Resolution on Medicare's right to negotiate drug prices

UFT Resolutions

WHEREAS, Medicare does not have the right to negotiate drug prices as a result of federal law, and consequently, prescription drug prices have skyrocketed with as yet no relief, providing drug companies with enormous profits; and

WHEREAS, actions by the Trump administration to control drugs prices have not lowered prices; and

WHEREAS, a Democratic Party majority that has endorsed lowering drug prices will control the House of Representatives for the next two years; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that we urge NYSUT, NEA, AFT and AFL-CIO to reiterate their longstanding position that Medicare be given the right to negotiate drug prices and that we urge Congress to make this a priority.
