This section archives the various testimonies and speeches given by UFT officers and staff members on behalf of the union and city schools.

The UFT submitted testimony to the City Council Committee on Education regarding overcrowding in NYC public schools and Res. No. 563.

UFT Vice President for Education Evelyn DeJesus testified before the New York City Council Education Committee regarding ensuring English Language Learners receive appropriate educational services.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew testified before the New York State Senate and Assembly Joint Committees on Education and Finance regarding Gov. Cuomo's FY 2015-16 executive budget proposal.

Jeffrey Hoffman, the director of child care policy at the UFT, testified before the New York City Council Committee on General Welfare regarding the oversight of EarlyLearnNYC, the city's contracted child care system.

UFT Vice President for Academic High Schools Janella Hinds testified before the New York City Council Committee on Education regarding diversity in New York City schools and proposed Int. No. 511-A-2014, Resolution 453-2014 and Resolution 442-2014.

Vice President for Special Education Carmen Alvarez testified before the New York City Council Committee on Education and Sub-Committee on Non-Public Schools about the Int. 0435 bill mandating special education services reporting.

UFT Vice President for Middle Schools Richard Mantell testified before the New York City Council Committee on Education about the essential role played by guidance counselors in our schools.

UFT Vice President for Special Education Carmen Alvarez testified that placing alarms on the exit doors of all elementary schools and all buildings that house District 75 programs, as Int. 0131 calls for, may help in alerting school staff once a child has left the building. But that should just be one piece of an overall plan to protect children who have a tendency to run.

The UFT submitted testimony to the New York City Council Committees on Education and Finance regarding the 2014-15 education expense and capital budgets.

Vice President for Non-Department of Education Members Anne Goldman testified before the New York City Council Committee on General Welfare and Committee on Women’s Issues regarding the Administration for Children's Services fiscal year 2014-15 budget.
