Resolution in support of streamlining the process to approve career and technical education programs
October 19, 2016
The UFT calls on the State Education Department to streamline, rationalize and simplify the CTE program approval process and requirements.

June 15, 2016
The United Federation of Teachers will proudly support and march in the 2016 Pride parade with our brothers and sisters in honor and memory of the Orlando victims.

Resolution for sensible placement of counselors and social workers in excess
June 15, 2016
The United Federation of Teachers will work with the Department of Education to change the rotation system so that guidance counselors and social workers in the ATR pool will be assigned to schools for a sufficient period so that they can continue to serve the children of NYC.

Resolution in support of immigrant students
May 18, 2016
The UFT will ask the Department of Education to require that each school with immigrant students appoint an ‘immigration adviser’ (similar to the ‘sustainability coordinator’ or ‘anti-bullying liaison’) to ensure that school processes are welcoming of immigrant students and families.

Resolution to support the Every School Speed Safety Camera Act

The UFT supports the passage of the Every School Speed Safety Camera Act; and the #EverySchool campaign to join with the voices of parents, educators and children who demand protection for all pedestrians from speed-related, avoidable traffic accidents.

The UFT will work to ensure that all ELLs receive appropriate ENL instruction as well as the resources and supports that will help them to achieve at the highest levels.

The UFT will continue to work with the DOE to ensure that legal, proper and fair practices are in place with regards to teacher discontinuances and that probationary teachers be treated with respect and professionalism.
