ADAPT Community Network

United Cerebral Palsy of NYC Chapter members attend a Rally for Respect.

The ADAPT Community Network Chapter, formerly known as the United Cerebral Palsy of NYC Chapter, came into being with the signing of the first contracts in June 2003 and has grown to include 1,000 members in five bargaining units (Lawrence Avenue, Flushing Avenue, West 154th Street, the Manhattan Children's Program and the Residences) across more than 30 work sites.

We represent teachers, teacher assistants, direct care workers, clinicians and other support staff in ADAPT Community Network’s school, Article 16 clinic, the adult day program and residential sites in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island.

Our members work around the clock with cognitively and physically challenged children and adults, teaching the academic and adaptive skills necessary for them to be as independent as possible while assisting them with essential activities of daily living.

Our chapter owes much of its success to former UFT Secretary Howard Schoor, who led the organizing drive.
