FAQ posted on the OLR website - posted on Sept. 29, 2021

(OLR subsequently revised this FAQ; see the revised FAQ posted on Nov. 19, 2021)

An FAQ from the city’s Office of Labor Relations (OLR) was posted on its website on Sept. 29. It included answers to these questions:

  • Will I be able to transfer to another health plan during the next Transfer Period?
  • As a member of the NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan, do I need a referral to see a specialist?
  • Do any services require preauthorization?
  • What if I live out of state?
  • Must I have a Medicare Part D prescription drug rider through the NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan?

Please read the new FAQ. Do not presume because you read previous versions that you do not need to read the most recent FAQ.

The NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan, a custom program for city retirees, beginning Jan. 1, 2022

The City and the Municipal Labor Committee selected an alliance between Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Emblem Health to provide the NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan to retirees and their eligible dependents. The NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan is a Medicare Advantage plan which is an alternative to the traditional Medicare program. It will replace the current Senior Care program, which is a supplement to traditional Medicare, as the program that is free to all retirees. Retirees will automatically be enrolled in the new NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan with an effective date of January 1, 2022. Retirees will have the ability to opt-out of the NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Plan and buy up to and remain in the health plan they are currently a member of during September and October before the program start date.

For additional information, you can call the special call center at 1-833-325-1190, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
