Importation of prescription drugs

Passed by the Retired Teachers’ Chapter membership meeting on October 12, 2004 and now goes to the Delegate Assembly of the UFT.

WHEREAS, prescription drug prices in the United States are sky high with prices rising beyond the rate of inflation, and

WHEREAS, drug prices in Canada are far below prices for the same drugs in the United States, and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives has approved a bill permitting importation of drugs from Canada, and

WHEREAS, the Senate, under the Republicans, have failed to permit a drug importation bill (Snow-Dorgan) from coming to a vote, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that we demand that the Senate leadership immediately permit a vote on the drug importation bill.  We are confident that once a vote is taken on the bill, it will pass overwhelmingly on a bi-partisan basis.
