Teachers’ Jobs Bill

In order to get part of President Obama’s jobs bill through Congress, Democrats introduced a $35 billion bill to fund jobs for teachers, police and firefighters.  To pay for this bill, a surtax of 0.5% would be imposed on millionaires.  The bill would create 400,000 jobs.  The Republicans voted it down.

Teachers are needed across the country to reduce class sizes and provide other school improvements.

There are 14 million Americans who are out of work with a grand total of 25 million who are looking for full time employment.  The economy is not producing jobs because of lack of demand.  Since 70% of the U.S. economy is the result of consumer demand, putting Americans back to work will stimulate demand.  A jobs bill for teachers and other Americans is desperately needed now.

RESOLVED, that we continue the fight for a teachers’ job bill as well as for jobs for all unemployed Americans.  We call upon all citizens to join in this fight.
