Pay

  • Did the per session pay rate increase and is per session pay retroactive from 2009?
    Watch the answer.
  • The contract expires in October 2018. Half of the retro pay is expected to be paid after the contract expires. How do we know they won't use that as a bargaining chip for the next contract? How can we guarantee that we will receive that money?
    Watch the answer.
  • If I go on unpaid childcare leave, will I still get my retro pay and the money owed to me from the years I worked?
    Watch the answer.
  • When will we receive the $1,000 signing bonus and how will we receive it?
    Watch the answer.
  • Will the retroactive payments have interest, or will they be compounded only?
    Watch the answer.

Retirement

  • I plan to retire in 2016. Will I get the retro lump-sum payments after that date?
    Watch the answer.
  • If I retire before June 30, when will I receive my retroactive payments?
    Watch the answer.
  • If I retire in 2017, is my pension going to include the two 4-percent retroactive raises within it?
    Watch the answer.

Teacher Evaluation

  • Will there be a third option for observations? What other changes have been made to the evaluation system for teachers?
    Watch the answer.
  • Can you talk more about the peer validators in the teacher evaluation system?
    Watch the answer.
  • If we reduced the number of Danielson components from 22 to eight, why do we still have six informal observations?

  • How does the contract modify the teacher evaluation system for teachers who teach non-tested subjects such as art and physical ed?
    Watch the answer.

Educational Issues

  • Will there be a teacher leader position in every school?  Will the hiring for these positions be done by the principal or by central DOE officials?
    Watch the answer.
  • Will special education teachers and teachers of non-academic subjects such as art, physical education and theater be eligible for teacher leadership positions?
    Watch the answer.
  • In the past, some teachers have been asked to create curriculum from scratch. Does the contract talk about the curriculum changes?
    Watch the answer.
  • If a school chooses to become a PROSE school, how far will the administration be allowed to veer from UFT rules and protocols?
    Watch the answer.

Workday

  • The math on the repurposed time doesn’t add up. How is it possible that I’m working the same number of hours when I have to work two additional parent-teacher conference nights and 155 minutes instead of 150 minutes extra a week?
    Watch the answer.
  • The repurposed workday options in the contract do not apply to multisession schools. What are some of the options for training for multisession schools, and how much leeway do they have to use the repurposed time?
    Watch the answer.

Other Topics

  • There doesn’t seem to be information about what happens if the agreed upon savings in health care fall short. You say that our health care won’t change, but at what cost to UFT members? Will members have to pay more into it?
    Watch the answer.
  • What, if any, changes will there be in working conditions for paraprofessionals?
    Watch the answer.
  • What are three areas in which this proposed contract makes a change from the past?

    Watch the answer.
