How can I earn CTLE hours as a paraprofessional?

• The DOE is an approved provider for CTLE, but in-school PD does not count unless the approved provider (sponsor) presents in the school during PD time. Teaching Assistants should inquire about CTLE when outside PD is given in the school. (Election Day, Chancellor PD days, etc.)

• Get involved in your school’s Professional Development Committee, which should actively discuss how to bring CTLE approved sponsors into the school building and create opportunities for members to acquire CTLE credit hours.

• Superintendent Offices, Central Divisions, and Field Support Centers are approved to provide CTLE hours. However, these professional learning opportunities are during the school day. You must be released from your school by your principal to attend.

• You can find the DOE Professional Development Calendars by going to the DOE website. Go to: http://schools.nyc.gov/Employees/Teachers/PD/default.htm. Scroll to bottom of the page and pick the field support center that is in your district. Peruse topics --the description will say if it is CTLE approved. Once you have attended, members can print out their own CTLE certificates at https://nycdoe.sharepoint.com/sites/OFS/NYCLearnX/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc=%7beff018b6-9c2f-45a5-83da-cceaafeebfa6%7d&action=default

• UFT Teacher Centers are approved sponsors. (212) 475-3737, 52 Broadway, 18th floor.
