Get active at your school
We are entering the most critical phase of our fight to protect our schools and our students from Cuomo's disastrous education agenda — and we need your participation!
We are moving New York City public schools forward based on what we know will help our students. After 12 years of Bloomberg, we have finally taken a meaningful step forward only to have the governor try to take us two steps backward. We can't let that happen.
That's why we are asking every school community to participate in our March 9 week of action:
- Organize an action of your choice during this week. We ask every school community to protest Cuomo's proposals through an action that engages your school community and draws attention to our case. For example, organize informational picketing before or after school. Ask staff to wear a specific color to work one day that week. Or have your chapter create its own anti-Cuomo buttons as PS 1 in Brooklyn did (at right). Feel free to get creative.
- Join hands around your school on Thursday, March 12. As the culminating citywide action, we invite every school community to gather before or after school on this date in a joining of hands in front of (or all around) its school building to show that we stand united to protect our schools against the governor's attack. Use this flier to publicize your event.
- Share your photos with us. Please photograph your school’s actions and send your best photos to uftphotos@gmail.com so that we can post them to Facebook, Instagram and our website. The best photos have lots of members and signs that tells the story (see the photo below submitted by PS 54 in the Bronx). Check our the photos submitted by PS 185 in Brooklyn and PS 54 in the Bronx. Also, share your photos via your own social networks.
