Challenging Assumptions - Social Justice and Humane Education virtual workshop
Join the UFT Humane Education Committee for part one of a virtual workshop discussing the relationship between animal cruelty and social justice. Iona College professor Dr. Kimberly Spanjol, Ph.D, BCBA-D, LMHC.
Human moral attitudes and biases toward non-human animals impact their exploitation, victimization, protection and survival, as well as our own. We’ll explore how these attitudes and biases develop and drive the root causes of harm perpetuated against animals and how to create opportunities for pro-social learning by acknowledging their plight as a social justice issue through the lens of Humane Education.
Teaching resources and recommendations will be geared towards secondary grade levels and beyond, however, material and conversation is geared and adaptable for anyone who values non-human animals and seeks to elevate both their status and protection through education and advocacy.
Once registered, you will receive an email with the meeting link and passcode.
