On June 27, 2018, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 against labor unions in the Janus vs. AFSCME case.
The Janus decision reflects years of scheming by forces desperate to destroy workers' rights and to undermine public education. These people think that their money, power and privilege give them the right to rig the system in their favor. But our union will remain strong, and we will not be silenced. Everything we have been able to accomplish for our members and our students has come from our ability to work together, and we will continue to fight for the rights of workers, their families and for public education.
The UFT is a strong union because of our membership. It’s why you have job security, teacher tenure, preparation periods, maximum teaching loads, premium-free healthcare and much more. Our enemies want to take all of this away from us.
Now more than ever, we must stand together and take care of each other.
Can we count on you?
No matter how tough — and well-funded — our opponents are, we can stay strong if we stay united.
Together we make it possible.
Our members know that belonging to a union makes a difference in their careers and their lives. Read their stories
