Math Teachers Committee

The UFT's Math Teachers Committee is an affiliated group of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and exists to serve and assist teachers of mathematics and paras in New York City public schools. Our members teach all fields of mathematics included in the curriculum for elementary, middle and high schools (pre-K to 12) in the city. Our meetings and workshops cover a wide range of topics in mathematics as well as interdisciplinary subjects from ideas for creative lesson plans to help with new math-related technologies.

Since 2008, we have partnered with the New York City Art Teachers Association/UFT (NYCATA) to host an ArtMath/MathArt workshop every May. Some recent ArtMath workshops have focused on fractals and on "Mathematical Art: Studio to Gallery to Classroom."

We have also presented social studies related math workshops at the ATSS/UFT annual conference. Other recent workshops have focused on TI's exciting TI-NSpire calculator, a useful tool for both students and teachers now able to graph in color and to import photos as well as on the use of quilts and stained glass in math instruction for students of all ages.

We hope you will join us for some or all of our events and will register with our committee by completing the enrollment form below! Check New York Teacher and this page for announcements of upcoming workshops.
