UFT Italian American Heritage Committee members celebrated Italian Heritage and Culture Month on Oct. 17 at UFT headquarters with a focus on Italian American sports legends in the United States. Guest speaker Joseph Dorinson, an author and history professor at Long Island University in Brooklyn, narrowed the focus to A Triple Play for the Ages — from Tony Lazzeri to Two Guys Named Joe. The two Joes, of course, were Joe DiMaggio and Joe Torre who, like Lazzeri, were all Yankees. Vocalist Christina Fontanelli rounded out the afternoon program with Italian music.Â
