UFT Vice President for Non-DOE Members Anne Goldman met with about 35 new nurses from Lutheran Medical Center at a meet-and-greet held at the Military Ocean Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Oct. 21. Goldman spoke to the nurses about the role of the union and their upcoming contract negotiations and introduced their union representatives. “The purpose was two-fold,” she said of the meeting. “One was to introduce them to the union and our ability to secure working conditions that allow them to practice nursing in a stable environment. The other was to introduce ourselves as professional mentors to secure a therapeutic environment allowing nurses to provide optimum patient care for each person we serve.” The union’s contract at Lutheran Medical Center expires on Feb. 28, 2016.
