Twenty-five music teachers from elementary, middle and high schools throughout the city came to UFT headquarters on April 26 for the Innovative Drum Circles workshop organized by the Music Teachers Association/UFT. “Teachers absolutely loved it,” said Sharon Golub, a co-chair of the association and a music teacher at PS 11 in Chelsea. “They had a tremendous amount of fun in this hands-on-workshop.” The room was filled with the joyful sounds of drumming, singing and pitched percussive instruments, while educators learned concepts and tools to bring back to the classroom and adapt to any grade level. Educators earned professional development credits for the workshop, which was aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards and addressed several of the Danielson domains.
