About 125 participants were offered a wide range of workshops at the Spring New York City Association of Foreign Language Teachers/UFT Professional Development Workshops held at UFT headquarters on April 6. The purpose of the day, retired teacher and association adviser Gary Milgrom said, was to “support and aid teachers in creating the best classrooms.” Eight workshops divided into two sessions were all led by teachers. In the workshop Making Projects in Spanish Class, Elisa Evers of Life Science Secondary HS in Manhattan showed participants how to develop hands-on projects for different student levels to help students build the organizational skills necessary to achieve goals. Milgrom said that teachers described making projects as a great way to engage students.
