More than 400 social workers packed Shanker Hall in Manhattan on March 14 for the fourth annual Social Worker Appreciation and Professional Development Day as part of National Social Work Month. Workshops covered attention deficit disorder, the school-to-prison pipeline and other topics. “It’s about making sure our members get the support they need,” said Raul Garcia, the chapter leader for social workers and psychologists. The workshop on triage and treatment for trauma hit home for Rebecca Cetta of New Utrecht HS in Brooklyn. “I’m interested in trauma therapy and how social workers can support clinicians working outside the school,” she said.
