It was an exceptional Teacher Appreciation Day at PS 53 in the Bronx on June 5, when educators gathered in the school cafeteria to enjoy a catered lunch.

Chapter Leader Desline Brown said not only was it an exceptional celebration but also the “best one ever” in the four years it’s taken place. Scores of Teacher of the Year awards were presented to staff members based on colleague nominations.

A special award went to UFT District 9 Representative Carol Harrison, a former student at the South Bronx school, for her ongoing support.

Three separate teacher-choreographed dance groups provided entertainment. UFT Assistant Secretary LeRoy Barr was a special guest at the pre-K-5 school celebration.
