Walk to Defeat ALS

Taking steps toward a cure
New York Teacher

A team of members of the Federation of Nurses/UFT joined 50,000 other marchers for the first time in the annual Walk to Defeat ALS — amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease — at East Meadow, Long Island, on Sept. 20. The nurses raised $500 for the cause. Among the UFT members who participated were Stacie Webb and Nadia Irving, nurses with the Visiting Nurse Service; nurse Lila Shams of Lutheran Medical Center; and Special Representative Howard Sandau.
