Here is a picture of my students’ science notebooks. I color code the side of each notebook and assign a color to each table. Each table has a ‘table leader’ who is responsible for gathering materials and supplies for each table. When I reorganize students’ seating arrangements, I add an additional block of color to show that they are sitting at a new table. Color coding the notebooks makes it easy for the table leader to locate the notebooks for all the students at his or her table quickly and cuts down on transition time. Also, having the students’ names written on top makes it easy to find a specific student’s notebook.
