Student ownership in the social studies classroom

My social studies classroom is maintained by the students themselves. Each class period has a responsibility within the room, and tasks are shifted periodically. In a section of the room known as the Collage Corner, students create a collage of our most recent project. This gives them an opportunity to showcase their best work. The students take great pride in maintenance of our classroom, taking ownership and learning responsibility. They enjoy every aspect from the planning to the implementation. In the process, they learn about collaboration, contribution, community and responsibility.
