Visual supports for nonverbal students

New York Teacher

The K–2 students in my self-contained 6:1:1 class love our morning meetings. We sing songs and use these visual supports for the months of the year, days of the week and the weather. The question boards enable my nonverbal students to ask and answer questions. I have a board with who, what, where, when and how many and a binder full of pictures to use. Students can use the board to answer questions in math or reading or to ask each other questions.
