This week is National School Counseling Week! I would like to thank you for the vital role you play every day in supporting the 1.1 million students in New York City.

This year's theme is "School Counseling: Helping Students Realize Their Potential." The week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, is special because it highlights the tremendous impact that school counselors — such as yourselves — have making our students successful. 

I want to personally commend you for all your hard work you've done and for the intervention services that you provide. The support we give to our schools makes a difference in the daily lives of our students and our colleagues who turn to us for expertise and strategies to enhance student achievement.
