Melissa Audain, PS 176 @Truman HS, the Bronx
I went to Krakow, Poland, for World Youth Day, which is a Catholic event that’s held every two to three years where youth from all over the world congregate with the Pope. It’s inspiring to see so many nationalities that share the same faith.

I taught a summer rock band program at my school, which was funded by Sports and Arts in Schools. Students learned guitar and keyboard and some also learned drums, bass guitar and even ukulele. I was especially proud when one student wrote an original song and they spent the next week learning to play it.

I spent my summer facilitating six weeks of professional development on the new Passport to Social Studies curriculum, which was written by UFT members. It has been the best experience in my nine-year career so far.
