Raise awareness of world hunger: Lead2Feed, in partnership with the USA Today Charitable Foundation, the Lift a Life Foundation, and the Yum! Foundation, seeks entrants for the World Hunger Leadership Challenge. The challenge encourages middle and high school students to hone leadership skills by completing a service-learning project that solves hunger issues. Sixth- through 12th-grade student teams can apply for awards ranging up to $25,000. Each team must have a teacher/adult adviser. Teams are asked to create and execute a service-learning project to raise awareness of world hunger.

For traveling teachers: The International Reading Association requests applications for the Travel Grants for Educators program. The program helps educators from any country attend association-sponsored meetings that are held outside the educators’ own continents. Eligibility: Educators who are International Reading Association members or are members of one of its affiliated groups. Funds: Varies by request.

Changing lives, communities: The Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching Awards Program honors teachers who have demonstrated their capacity to change the outcome of students’ lives and the communities where they teach. Turnaround Management Association, the only international nonprofit association dedicated to corporate restructuring and turnaround management, administers the program and provides partial funding through the TMA Cornerstone Board-designated Endowment, which supports research and education in the corporate renewal industry. The award consists of a $5,000 cash prize and covers transportation and lodging for the TMA’s 26th annual conference, Sept. 29–Oct. 1, at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario. TMA will present two prizes and distribute news releases about the winners to local and national news media outlets. Eligibility: Nominees must be licensed and active elementary or secondary (K-12) classroom teachers; teach at an accredited public or private school; possess at least five years of teaching experience; and have instructed students the equivalent of 20 hours per week during a nine-month academic calendar year for at least five of the prior seven years.

Planting for prizes: Gardening with Kids seeks entrants for its 2015 Catalog Contest. The contest asks entrants to submit pictures of kids gardening to be used in the 2015 catalog. All submitted images become the property of the National Gardening Association and Gardening with Kids. Individuals shown must have a signed photo release form on file with the submitting school or organization, which can be supplied to Gardening with Kids upon request. Funds: Five winners receive a $100 gift certificate to the Gardening with Kids shop. Every entry receives a free gift. Eligibility: Individuals.
