The awards are given to high school music programs that are keeping music programs alive and well despite lacking budgets and school politics. Funds: Grants up to $6,000. Making most of technology
Applications are being accepted for eInstruction’s Professional Development grant program, which provides funding to schools to host an EdTech conference. The purpose of an EdTech conference is to inform teachers of best practices to effectively integrate different types of technology and how to leverage existing technology to optimize what they already have. Recipients receive a $3,500 grant and free loaner technology for every presentation. Grantees also receive an eInstruction coordinator and a host guide toolkit. Eligibility: School districts.

Community action
Jane Goodall’s Root & Shoots program is looking for applications for the Roots & Shoots Community Campaign Mini-Grants. The grants support youth-led community action and learning programs. Funds: $200 Visa gift card grants. Eligibility: Individuals. Applicants must be registered members of Roots & Shoots (free registration). Grant recipients are required to complete a project profile on the Roots & Shoots website, including how many people participated, how many hours were worked and how many people benefited.

The Thomson Reuters Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award recognizes the unique teaching contribution of an individual as a teacher of information science. Maximum award: $1,000; $500 toward travel or other expenses to the grant recipient, contingent upon the recipient’s attending the ASIS&T annual meeting. Eligibility: individuals directly engaged in teaching some aspect of information science on a continuing basis, in an academic or a nonacademic setting; nominees need not be associated with an educational institution; however, teaching information science must represent a significant work responsibility although it need not occur within the traditional classroom.

The Freedoms Foundation and the Valley Forge Leavey Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education will honor outstanding educators who help build entrepreneurial skills of their students at the elementary, junior high school, high school and college levels. Up to 20 cash awards are made annually valued at $7,500 each. One meritorious award of $15,000 may be made for an outstanding entry. Eligibility: teachers at schools (K–12), colleges and universities.

The Pelican Foundation for Creative Education is offering grants of up to $500 to middle and high school teachers who have a great idea for a lesson that will engage students and enhance their curriculum. The group funds creative educational projects in all subject areas. Collaborations between disciplines are encouraged to apply. This project was established to honor the work of Fred Rubino, a beloved educator.

Solve your geometry problem
The Understanding of Geometry grant is meant to help develop activities that will enable students to better appreciate and understand some aspect of geometry that is consistent with the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics of NCTM. The project should include applications of geometry to, for example, art, literature, music, architecture, nature or some other relevant area and may integrate the use of technology into the teaching of geometry. Proposals must address the following: geometry content, the appropriateness of the application, the link between the Geometry Standard and the project’s activities, and the anticipated impact on students’ learning. Maximum award: $4,000. Eligibility: Teachers pre-K–8 who are NCTM members as of Oct. 14 or teach at a school with a pre-K–8 NCTM school membership as of Oct. 14.
