Trucker Buddy International is looking for applications for its 2016 School Supply and Equipment Grants program. The program seeks to help schools that are in need of supplies, equipment and other items used within the classrooms. Funds: $500. Eligibility: K–12 schools. Some preference given to schools in rural areas.

Pay for supplies and equipment

The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation is requesting applications for the 2016 Ezra Jack Keats Mini-Grant program. The program helps support organizations provide creative, innovative plans that support or extend the Common Core Standards in education. Teachers and librarians at public schools and libraries can apply for grants of up to $500.

Excellence in engineering education

In partnership with the Northrop Grumman Foundation and the National Science Teachers Association, this award is to recognize excellence in the field of engineering education. NSTA and the Northrop Grumman Foundation recognize the importance of integrating high-quality engineering instruction into the science classroom and the critical need for making students proficient in the practices used by engineers in the field. One prize will be awarded annually. Eligibility: The applicant must be a K–12 public school science/technology teacher. Individuals must have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience. Awardees must have exhibited excellence in engineering science education. The award consists of $5,000 for classroom materials and equipment, a cash prize of $3,000, and $2,000 to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education. The awardee will be presented the award at the Teacher Awards Banquet at the National Conference.

Technology and education awards

The Foundation for Technology and Engineering Educators announces the $1,000 Greer/FTEE Grant, made available through the generosity of Dr. William David Greer Jr. Its purpose is to encourage professional development of classroom teachers and supervisors in technology and engineering education. The successful applicant will receive a check for $1,000 to offset the expenses of attending an International Technology and Engineering Educators Association Conference. Every applicant must be an ITEEA member and register for the ITEEA Annual Conference (membership may be enclosed with scholarship application); must be a technology and engineering education teacher or supervisor for secondary education for grades 6–12; must not have attended more than three previous ITEEA conferences; must attend the conference awards.

The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity for accomplished K–12 educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to serve in the national education arena. Fellows spend 11 months working in a federal agency or in a U.S. congressional office, bringing their extensive knowledge and experience in the classroom to education program and/or education policy efforts. Current sponsoring agencies include: the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Up to four placements in congressional offices are sponsored.

Science teachers wanted

The National Science Teachers Association annually awards one or more Distinguished Teaching Awards in the field of K–16 science education. The awards are designed to recognize current NSTA members who are classroom teachers at the elementary school, middle school, high school and undergraduate levels and who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of science teaching. The number of awards given each year is at the Awards and Recognitions Committee’s discretion. Each award consists of three nights’ hotel accommodations and expenses (up to $500) to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education. Awardees will be honored at the Awards Banquet during the conference. Eligibility: This award is open only to current NSTA members who have at least 10 years of teaching experience.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries provides funds to the neediest schools so they can extend, update and diversify the book and print collections in their libraries with the goal of encouraging students to develop a love of reading and learning. School libraries can apply for up to $7,000 in funds. See the list of criteria online.

Science lab resources

Shell and the National Science Teachers Association have partnered to recognize outstanding middle and high school programs for their exemplary approaches to science lab instruction utilizing limited school and laboratory resources. The Shell Science Lab Challenge will showcase the work of teachers, representing their schools, who submit innovative, replicable strategies to deliver quality lab experiences with limited equipment/resources, and award teachers/schools with additional tools, resources and rich professional development opportunities needed to support high-quality science teaching and strengthen their existing capabilities. Applicants may be individual teachers or teams of teachers of science in grades 6–12, in the United States and Canada, representing their schools. A teacher is limited to one application per year (whether submitting as an individual or team applicant). A school may submit an unlimited number of applications. Awards range from $3,000 to $20,000.

USA Today Charitable Foundation and its Education Partners are looking for educators who would like to receive access to the USA Today electronic edition at no cost. This includes usernames and passwords for you and your students. Returning a Confirmation Delivery Form at the end of the school year is a requirement for receiving a grant.
