High-tech opportunity

Vernier is looking for applications for the 2018 Vernier/National Science Teachers Association Technology Awards. The awards promote the innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, tablet, graphing calculator or other handheld in the science classroom. Each award will consist of $1,000 in cash for the teacher, $3,000 in Vernier products and up to $1,500 toward expenses to attend the annual NSTA National Convention. Eligibility: Educators at the K–12 and higher education levels.

Fellowship funding

Fund for Teachers is seeking applications for its 2018 grant program. The program supports self-designed fellowships for teachers to enrich their practice, support student success and strengthen schools and communities. Funds: $5,000 grants for individuals and $10,000 grants for teams. Eligibility: Full-time pre-K–12 teachers who spend at least 50 percent of their work week in direct classroom instruction, return to the classroom in the consecutive school year and have at least three years of experience. The 2018 application period opens Oct. 1.

New children’s book authors wanted

The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation requests applications for the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award. The award seeks to recognize and encourage emerging talent in the field of children’s books. To be eligible, writers and illustrators must have had no more than three books published. Winners receive $1,000 awards.

For science teachers

The National Science Teachers Association and the Shell Oil Company are requesting applications for the Shell Science Teaching Award. The award recognizes one outstanding classroom teacher (grades K–12) who has had a positive impact on students, school and community through exemplary science teaching. Special projects may be mentioned, but should not be the main focus of the candidate’s application. Funds: Winner receives $10,000. In addition, the recipient and the two finalists each receive an all-expense-paid trip to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education. Ten semifinalists will receive certificates of distinction. Eligibility: Nominees must be classroom teachers whose responsibilities include teaching science. Also, they must have a minimum of eight years of experience (not including the current school year) as a teacher of science.

Nominate a librarian

The American Library Association is looking for nominations for the 2017 I Love My Librarian Award. The award seeks to highlight the transformative contributions of the nation’s librarians. Funds: Up to 10 winners will receive a $5,000 prize, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend an awards reception in New York hosted by Carnegie Corporation of New York. Eligibility: Librarians working in public school, college, community college and university libraries.
